Running out of fuel can leave a vehicle stranded in a car park, on a local road or close to a motorway or expressway. If you cannot reach a filling station safely, HELP-CAR can deliver the correct type of fuel directly to the vehicle’s location.
Before setting off, we confirm the vehicle’s location, the required fuel type and the symptoms that occurred before it stopped. This helps us assess whether an empty tank is likely to be the actual cause or whether the vehicle may instead require diagnostics or transport on a recovery platform.
Petrol or diesel — the fuel type must not be guessed
During the call, the correct fuel type must be confirmed clearly. This information can usually be checked on the fuel filler flap, in the vehicle handbook, in the vehicle documents or in the manufacturer’s app.
We do not deliver fuel based on an assumption. Adding the wrong type of fuel can cause serious damage to the fuel system and engine.
If the wrong fuel has already been added to the tank, do not start the engine or continue driving. This is not a standard out-of-fuel situation and may require the tank to be drained, specialist workshop assistance or vehicle transport.
Will the vehicle start after fuel is added?
In many cases, adding fuel allows the engine to be restarted and the journey to continue. However, it is not possible to guarantee that the vehicle will start immediately.
When a tank has been completely emptied, air may enter the fuel system. This is particularly relevant to some diesel vehicles. The vehicle may also have stopped because of a faulty fuel pump, battery, electrical system or another mechanical or electronic problem.
If the vehicle still does not start after fuel has been added, the driver will discuss the available options with the customer, including transport to a workshop, home address or another specified destination.
An accurate location prevents delays in finding the vehicle
The best option is to send a live location pin directly from your phone. For a vehicle stopped on or near a road, please also provide:
- the direction of travel;
- the road number;
- the nearest exit;
- the nearest town or a recognisable landmark;
- the side of the road on which the vehicle is located.
In a car park, provide the name of the site, the section number, level, entrance gate or another detail that will help us locate the vehicle.
A street name alone may not be sufficient, particularly on long roads, at junctions or in car parks with several entrances.
Safety is more important than delivering fuel quickly
If the vehicle has stopped in a live traffic lane, near a dangerous bend, on a bridge or in a place with restricted visibility, fuel delivery alone may not be an adequate solution.
First:
- switch on the hazard warning lights;
- put on a high-visibility vest before leaving the vehicle;
- position the warning triangle in accordance with the road conditions and applicable rules;
- move passengers to a safe place if this can be done without creating additional risk.
Do not attempt to push the vehicle on a busy road or add fuel in a place where the recovery vehicle cannot stop safely. In such circumstances, the location may first need to be secured or the vehicle may need to be transported.
What information should you prepare before calling?
Before contacting us, prepare:
- the vehicle make and model;
- the required fuel type;
- the exact location or a location pin;
- the direction of travel if the vehicle is close to a main route;
- a description of the symptoms before the vehicle stopped;
- information on whether the engine stopped while driving or failed to start after being parked;
- confirmation of whether the vehicle is in a safe location;
- the telephone number of the person who is with the vehicle.
If you are unsure whether the vehicle stopped because it ran out of fuel, describe exactly what happened. This will help us assess the situation more accurately before setting off.
Fuel delivery cost
The price depends mainly on the vehicle’s location, the travel distance, the time of the request and the amount of fuel required. The cost of the fuel itself is added to the service charge.
Before setting off, we confirm the agreed attendance conditions and service cost with the customer. If the description suggests that fuel delivery is unlikely to solve the problem, we explain this before accepting the request.
Fuel delivery in the Tricity area
HELP-CAR provides fuel delivery in Gdańsk, Gdynia, Sopot and the surrounding Tricity area. Calls are handled directly by the driver, without a call centre.
During the call, you can immediately share the location, describe the symptoms and establish whether fuel delivery should be sufficient or whether transport on a recovery platform would be the safer option.
